Buckle your seatbelt, Dorothy.

Whether you chose the blue pill or the red pill, the reality is that The Matrix Resurrections trailer will send you right back down the rabbit hole.

Following a very clever teaser campaign, the first official trailer offers an exhilarating look at the fourth instalment of the Matrix franchise, following 2003's The Matrix Revolutions. Lana Wachowski is directing solo this time, having also co-written and produced the film.

We reunite with Keanu Reeves as a bearded Neo, throwing back blue pills and seemingly unable to remember his past, including Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity. We meet Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as a Morpheus-like character offering Neo an exit from the Matrix, Priyanka Chopra Jonas offering Neo a copy of Alice in Wonderland, Jessica Henwick fighting furiously and guiding Neo, Jonathan Groff having a chat, and a therapist played by Neil Patrick Harris.

There are plenty of throwback moments that fans will spy, including Reeves and Abdul-Mateen in a fast-paced martial arts scene (quite the throwback to Neo and Morpheus' "show me" training sequence).

No one can be told what The Matrix Resurrections trailer is. You'll have to see it for yourself.

The Matrix Resurrections is out in cinemas and streaming on HBO Max from Dec. 22.
