International treasure Tom Hardy may be best known for his intense, often laconic characters in films like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant, but the British thesp is also a father and a dog lover -- which explains his latest role.

Hardy (and his dog, Woody) recently appeared on British kids channel CBeebies -- which frequently enlists celebrities to read bedtime stories for its preschool audience -- where he gave a charming performance of the book You Must Bring a Hat, by Simon Philip and Kate Hindley.

Spoiler alert: It's adorable.

Make the most of Hardy's kid-friendly appearance while you can; the Oscar nominee will next be seen on the small screen in FX's Taboo, a violent and visceral period drama conceived by Hardy and his father, in which the actor plays an enigmatic explorer who "has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed," per the cable network.

In other words, don't expect many elephants in tutus.

Taboo premieres Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 10 p.m. on FX.
