Totally rad 'Valley Girl' clip is a nostalgia trip to a simpler time

Had we seen this Valley Girl exclusive clip three months ago, we might have groaned with recognition at the totally '80s slang, the totally '80s hairstyles, and the totally '80s choice of activities: "Where should we go now? Esprit or Limited?"

Seeing it today, though, it might as well be a missive from another universe. Going to a mall? Eating at a food court? Hanging out with friends — among strangers, no less? And all without worrying about phrases like "social distancing" or "asymptomatic carrier"? Were we ever so lucky?

Well, yes and no. Valley Girl's vision of the 1980s is a knowingly exaggerated one, based more on our nostalgia for the decade than the factual experience of it. But we gotta say, a trip to a candy-coated past that never existed sounds pretty good right about now.

Starring Jessica Rothe, Alicia Silverstone, Josh Whitehouse, and, um, Logan Paul, Valley Girl is out in select drive-in theaters and on digital Friday, May 8.
