Martha may officially be the "world's ugliest dog," but we happen to think she's beautiful just the way she is.

Shirley Zindler, the woman who rescued Martha and took her in as part of the Dogwood Animal Rescue Project, thinks so too.

She appeared with Martha on ITV's This Morning to explain that the competition is actually a great way of helping dogs find new homes.

"It's promoting adoption and rescue of dogs that are less than traditionally beautiful," Zindler explains in the clip above. "Certainly they're all beautiful in their own way."

It's obviously worked, too, because Martha has a new home all lined up -- an 11-acre property that comes complete with apricot trees for her to doze under.
