Another reason Brooklyn rules: Mega-sized Captain America statue
Captain America -- the brand, that is, as the hero man isn't a real person -- turns 75 in 2016, and to help celebrate Marvel commissioned Comicave Studios to erect a statue that will live in Cap's home turf: New York.
The 13-foot-tall bronze behemoth features Cap standing up straight, his trademark shield extended high above his head. The statue's base bears a quote -- "I'm just a kid from Brooklyn" -- from the movie Captain America: First Avengers.
It also makes note of the year 1941, which was the date on the cover of Captain America Comics #1.

The statue makes its debut at San Diego Comic-Con this week before journeying across the country to land in Brooklyn's Prospect Park on Aug. 10. It then moves to the Barclays Center arena in September and Sunset Park -- another Brooklyn locations -- in October.
Interestingly, the comic book version of Steve Rogers -- Cap's unmasked identity -- was born on Manhattan's Lower East Side. The Brooklyn origin is a fabrication of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It's also worth noting that the Cap technically debuted in 1940, Dec. 20, to be exact. But the comic's cover was dated March 1941. That's why 2016 is the 75th anniversary.
As for why it's giving preferential treatment to the movie version of Cap over his comic book inspiration... have you read Captain America comics lately? Dude's a hot mess, and no kind of role model.
