Looks like Castle fans heartbroken over the ousting of Stana Katic won't have to watch a version of the show without the actress, as ABC has decided to cancel the show, Mashable has confirmed.

The move is somewhat shocking, considering the network ruffled many viewers' feathers by announcing Katic, who had been with the series from the start, would not be part of Season 9, if the network ordered another season.

The backlash to the announcement, said to be motivated by budget cuts, was swift and loud, with fans using the hashtag #NoStanaNoCastle to air their grief.

Still, ABC continued ahead, sealing deals with Nathan Fillion and much of the supporting cast -- like Jon Huertas, Molly Quinn, Susan Sullivan and Toks Olagundoye -- to return for a then-hypothetical Season 9.

According to TVLine, the finale set to air on Monday to set up a possible Season 9 will likely be swapped with an episode pre-cut in the case of cancellation.

The promo for the finale, of course, set up the show for what seemed to be a pretty tragic ending.

Also canceled today at ABC: the tried-so-hard-to-make-it-work Muppets and Connie Britton-led Nashville

The series finale of Castle airs Monday at 10 p.m ET.
