The first game of the 2017 World Series was hot. Literally. It was the hottest World Series game ever.

When the game started, the announcer at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles announced it was 103 degrees Fahrenheit. That beats the previous record-holder, a 2001 World Series game in Phoenix that reached 94 degrees.

Oh, and the game was pretty good too. The LA Dodgers beat the Houston Astros 3-1, so at least fans left with smiles on their sweat-drenched faces. Journalists baking in the LA sun definitely noticed it was a bit toasty.

At least Lady Gaga had a good time.

The heat wave didn't just affect Dodger Stadium. Across Southern California, soaring temperatures combined with roaring Santa Ana winds made life miserable. A brush fire north of Ventura burned 117 acres on Tuesday, leading to the evacuation of a school.

You can't pin any one spike in temperatures on climate change. But more frequent and severe extreme heat events are consistent with what scientists have observed due in large part to human-caused global warming.

Luckily, it's supposed to cool down on Wednesday, when the Astros and Dodgers face off for Game 2.
