Lost family dog finally makes it home after three years

Three years after disappearing from his front yard, a beloved pet dog finally made it back home to safety.

The Virginian-Pilot shared the sweet story of an American pit-bull terrier named Gucci, who was reunited with the Kelly family after years of separation.

In 2013, two weeks before Gary and Ayana Kelly prepared to move from San Antonio, Texas, to Norfolk, Virginia, Gucci disappeared from their yard. Though they spent their final two weeks in Texas searching for their missing pet, they were eventually forced to give up and leave the state. 

As Ayana Kelly told the newspaper, she and her family were, "devastated" to leave their pet behind.

But in early March, the Kellys were shocked to receive a phone call from a San Antonio shelter saying that a microchipped dog in their care had turned up their information. 

With the help of an animal rescue and transport group, Gucci traveled more than 1,500 miles to make it home on Thursday night, where he and the Kelly family were finally reunited.

"He’s the same big baby," Gary Kelly told the paper. "It’s like one of my kids came home."
