Fries for all!

French fry vendors of Ghent, Belgium, are up in arms over new legislation regarding their businesses. They decided to retaliate by throwing frozen chopped potatoes all over the exterior of city hall.

As reported by Mashable France, french fry kiosk owners in the Dutch-Belgian city had first dibs on renewing their leases. There would then be an auction for it, after which the current owner had the right to retain their lease if they could pay 5 percent more than the highest bidder.

Ghent's government recently changed the rule - now the highest bidder gets the lease.

The sellers are worried they will lose their stands, so to protest, some of them unloaded two tons of frozen french fries onto the steps, windowsills, and pretty much every nook and cranny of city hall Tuesday night.

According to De Standaard, the fry entrepreneurs had already lost two cases with the government regarding overturning this rule. Since their conservative efforts were unfruitful, they decided to use their greatest commodity as a weapon.

Based on these photos, it appears that workers were sent to clean up the beautiful french fry display soon after it was created.

Whether or not Ghent's officials overturn their legislation, we hope the people of Ghent never run out of french fries.

Update, June 9, 6:33 p.m. ET: A previous version of this post stated that Ghent is in France instead of Belgium. It also stated the protest occurred at the French City Hall, when in fact it was Belgian City Hall.
