Daenerys will have a 'frightening' journey in 'Game of Thrones' Season 7, and she's not alone

There's only room for one Mad Queen on Game of Thrones, and currently, Cersei Lannister seems to fit that description perfectly -- right down to her penchant for burning her political opponents with wildfire.

But no House produces crazy monarchs like the Targaryens, and Daenerys is finally heading to Westeros in Season 7. Some fans have speculated that -- despite her desire to "break the wheel" and stop the endless war between the Great Houses -- she might follow in her father's footsteps and go a little power-mad once she gets a taste for battle.

Luckily, Emilia Clarke is feeling pretty good about her character's moral compass -- and Dany's chances of survival -- as we approach the final two seasons of HBO's hit.

"I think that there was always that idea that she would know where she was going to, but the reality is frightening," Clarke said of Dany's quest toward the Iron Throne during an interview with the Belfast Telegraph. "I always believed that Dany had the highest of hopes for what kind of impact she could leave on this world. She is continuously reaching for purest level of rulership."

But as we've seen in the past, our beloved Khaleesi has struggled with the realities of being a leader, especially when it comes to dealing with dissenters like the Sons of the Harpy. The people of Westeros aren't slaves who will be loyal to her simply because she freed them -- and Clarke acknowledges that the Targaryens haven't always been the best rulers.

"Dany is exploring every avenue that her bloodline has been to. People have an idea of what her father was and everyone has vague idea what her brother was," she noted. "She knows what those things are but it could be very easy for her to do something very rash."

With the Season 7 trailer confirming that Daenerys makes it to Westeros -- and into battle with the Lannisters -- it might not be long until the Mother of Dragons gets a chance to prove what kind of queen she'll be, and Clarke says she's feeling "optimistic" about Dany's chances of seizing the Iron Throne.

"She'll probably need some help, though. I'll definitely be disappointed if she doesn't make it," she teased.

Meanwhile, Dany's nephew, Jon Snow, is rallying his forces in the North -- but he's not interested in the pointy chair in King's Landing -- his focus is on the White Walkers.

"You could see, at the end of Season 6, he's thinking, 'I'm the King of the North' and there is a small smile on his face, and I think that Season 7 starts with optimism," Harington told the Telegraph. "I mean, the world's f--king ending and he's in real danger, but at least he's in a place where people will listen to him when he's warning them, and he can get right down to business."

Harington also brought up another intriguing point -- that as the show nears its conclusion, we're supposed to believe that none of our favorites are safe -- and that just because Jon was resurrected once, doesn't mean he's immune from dying again. (But are they really going to kill off Dany, Jon, Arya or Tyrion? Pfft.)

"I think the point of sending Mel away at the end of last season was to say, well, she's not around, so you know he's in danger, mortal danger, like everyone else," Harington said.
