Dion Leonard is a happy man again. The Australian athlete has been reunited with Gobi, the dog that he adopted after she accompanied him for part of a marathon in China.

The two met each other during the Gobi March 4 Desert Race in June. Leonard told reporters that he first noticed the dog running alongside him on the second day of the race and they bonded when he carried Gobi across a few rivers. By the end of the race, Leonard said that he was so taken by the dog that he decided to adopt her.

Then, it was reported that Gobi had gone missing after Leonard had returned home to raise funds to pay for the dog's adoption process.

Overall, Leonard has raised a lot of money from strangers, which he says was needed to adopt and find Gobi. Initially, he asked for £5,000 ($6,600) to pay for Gobi's quarantine, veterinary bills and adoption proceedings — he ended up raising £19,000 ($21,000). (Leonard said the additional cash would go to a dog charity.)

Then, he raised another £10,000 ($13,200), which he said he needed to fly to China and find Gobi.

On Thursday, after days of searching, Leonard tweeted that Gobi had been found.

A video posted on the "Bring Gobi Home" Facebook page showed the sweet reunion between Leonard and the dog. A woman in the background can be heard explaining in Mandarin that Gobi had a wound on her leg and that she looked like she was beaten by someone.

So far, there's been no explanation of how and where Gobi was found.
