This character's absence from 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' has got people talking

LONDON -- So the eighth story in the world's most epic wizarding saga is finally here.

In the hours since the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, social media has been buzzing with emotional outpourings, opinions, heartfelt messages -- and one recurring question.

Remember Teddy Lupin? Although he's not in the bulk of the original Harry Potter stories, he has a pretty big mention in the "Nineteen Years Later" epilogue that also acts as the starting point for the Cursed Child.

He's the child of the now-deceased Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, he's Harry Potter's Godson, and J.K. Rowling herself even gave an update last year on how he was getting on at Hogwarts.

Perhaps because of all this attention, people were a bit surprised that he isn't even mentioned in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

One Redditor even started a thread on the r/harrypotter subreddit to discuss Teddy's absence.

So why wasn't Teddy Lupin included?

Well in fairness to Jack Thorne, J.K. Rowling and John Tiffany, they had a hell of a lot of stuff to fit into one play. Between catching up with the old generation, following the lives of the new generation and creating an entirely new story, it's really no surprise that they weren't able to squeeze everyone in (aside from Albus, Harry's other children don't really get mentioned that much in the story either).

It's possible that J.K. Rowling's tweet about Teddy Lupin being head boy was done with this in mind -- she likely knew at that stage that they wouldn't be able to cover his story in the play, so she found another way to tell fans how he was getting on.
