This year saw the 3rd reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise in this millennium. More importantly, it's also the year that everyone's favorite non-Peter Parker Spider-Man is finally hitting the mainstream.

Miles Morales (who is also the Spider-Man of Marvel's Ultimate Universe) is a half-black, half-Puerto Rican teen who's taken up the Spidey mantle after the death of Peter Parker. He's appeared in the comics for some time, and now Morales stars in his first novel, written by award-winning YA author Jason Reynolds, and out on August 1.

"Miles Morales is just your average teenager. Dinner every Sunday with his parents, chilling out playing old-school video games with his best friend, Ganke, crushing on brainy, beautiful poet Alicia. He's even got a scholarship spot at the prestigious Brooklyn Visions Academy. Oh yeah, and he's Spider-Man."

A mixture of teen drama, superhero adventure, and socially conscious storytelling, Reynolds' Miles Morales: A Spider-Man Novel is the refreshing Spidey take you've been waiting for.

MashReads has an exclusive clip of the audiobook, narrated by Guy Lockard.
