The DNC just made history again.

Sarah McBride, LGBTQ rights activist and national press secretary of the Human Rights Campaign, spoke on stage at the Democratic Convention on Thursday, becoming the first openly transgender person to address a major party convention.

McBride began her speech, "My name is Sarah McBride and I am a proud transgender American."

McBride spoke thoughtfully and passionately about her experience as a transgender woman, from when she came out as transgender in college to marrying her transgender husband in 2014. Her husband, sadly, passed away shortly after.

Along with her personal story, McBride showed her support for Hillary Clinton and the work that has been done for LGBTQ rights. However, as McBride said in her speech, "so much work remains."
