Southwest Airlines recently became a hero to some pretty grateful furry victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The adorable cats and dogs were rescued and flown from Austin, Texas, to San Diego, California, by the airline who wanted to help the helpless.

According to the Boston Herald, one of the airlines' main cabin interiors took in four-legged cuties in search of new and loving forever homes. Volunteers also helped to escort and the animals on the relief flight.

The mission was done in conjunction with Helen Woodward Animal Center and Operation Pets Alive, an organization that set up an emergency shelter for the animals in Houston. The animals previously lived in shelters around the city but were uprooted due to the intensity of the hurricane.

Mike Arms, president and CEO of the Helen Woodward Animal Center told the Boston Herald, "There are shelters that have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey, without electricity, without supplies. Operation Pets Alive has taken in an overwhelming number of orphan dogs and cats who had inhabited those shelters before the storm and were suddenly facing euthanasia simply because they had no place to go."

In a statement, Southwest Airlines Chief Communications Officer, Linda Rutherford said, "The devastation of Hurricane Harvey has impacted a number of our communities along the Gulf. Our hearts are with our customers, employees, family and friends who have experienced loss and devastation from the storm. We're so happy to partner with the Helen Woodward Animal Center to extend hope to Houston by transporting shelter animals to a new home in San Diego, while making additional space for family pets whose humans are currently displaced. Our employees care so deeply for our customers and all those impacted by Hurricane Harvey, including our sweet little four-legged friends."

Mashable has reached out to Southwest Airlines for additional comment and will update if we receive any.
