In these troubled times, when climate change is considered fake news and we seem to be constantly teetering on the brink of nuclear war, you might find yourself yearning for simpler days, back when a generation of optimistic kids believed we could "take pollution down to zero" under the tutelage of a green-skinned, underoo-wearing eco-warrior with a mullet.

Luckily for all of us disenchanted millennials, Captain Planet is making a comeback -- along with his trusty Planeteer sidekick Kwame -- in Cartoon Network's OK K.O.: Let's Be Heroes, and we've got your first look at the October 9 episode, aptly titled "The Power Is Yours."

The installment brings back the original voices behind Cap (David Coburn) and Kwame (LeVar Burton), along with a few delightful Captain Planet easter eggs -- including the show's signature power rings, catchphrases and rockin' electric guitar soundtrack -- for an episode that combines OK K.O.'s signature insanity with Captain Planet's surprisingly potent idealism.

While the original series was often inadvertently hilarious, this loving homage may just make you laugh and make you think.

OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes airs “The Power Is Yours” on Monday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. on Cartoon Network. If you're attending New York Comic-Con, you can also see more of Captain Planet and OK K.O. at the network's panel on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. in room 1A10 of the Javits Center.

Full disclosure: Turner Broadcasting, which owns Cartoon Network, is an investor in Mashable.
