We simply can't imagine anything other than Sir David Attenborough's dulcet tones guiding us through the beauty and savagery of Planet Earth II.

Now the BBC has given us an inside look at how this national treasure makes the magic happen.

This video takes us into the studio and shows us how Attenborough writes the script and records it. He says he's not always perfect but recording a one-hour show in two hours seems pretty darn impressive.

And his preferred tool for pinning down those amazing moments? Good ol' VHS.

But knowing how it all works still doesn't make his voice any less magical.
