Colbert mocks Trump for failing to understand the US constitution

For such a fierce patriot, Trump appears to be pretty unfamiliar with his country's constitution.

Following a couple of jibes at Trump's plans to increasing the nuclear program on Wednesday night, Stephen Colbert had a lot to say about Trump's grasp of the US constitution.

This comes after the U.S. president said in an interview: "It's frankly disgusting the way the press is able to write whatever they wanna write and people should look into it," to which Colbert responded by referring to the first amendment, which protects freedom of speech.

Trump also tweeted asking when it would be "appropriate" to challenge the license of news organisations like NBC whom he considers to be 'fake news'. Colbert countered by asking when it would be "appropriate" for Twitter to suspend Trump's account.

Later in the show Colbert cites the allegation that Trump told Steve Bannon he didn't know what the 25th amendment was, which would allow a majority of the cabinet to vote to remove the president.

A president who doesn't know his own country's constitution is a scary thought. But maybe there's an upside? Maybe he'll get so tangled in the details of the constitution it'll restrict the amount of damage he does. Emphasis on 'restrict'.
