It's been a sad few days for TV fans.

As usual, the end of the TV season has brought with it some tough -- and some not so tough -- decisions for networks about the fates of their existing shows as they make room for a batch of newbies.

All of this, of course, is in preparation for next week's broadcast Upfronts, during which the networks will announce their upcoming slates for advertisers.

So who won't be returning next season? We break down the action so far below, by taking a look at the shows that were sacrificed to the TV Gods and those that received a graceful exit:

ABC

It was a pretty deadly year for freshman shows over at ABC. Last year saw the Alphabet network yank 5 of its freshman shows, while this year saw that number increase to 6 -- including the much buzzed-about return of The Muppets. That's gotta sting.

Also going is the first female-led Marvel property, Agent Carter, which received solid reviews for its second season but failed to find eyeballs. Oh, and let's not even talk about that disaster with Castle. The full list:

  • Of Kings and Prophets (yanked from the network after 2 episodes back in March)

  • The Family (after 1 season)

  • Blood and Oil (after 1 season)

  • The Muppets (after 1 season)

  • Wicked City (after 1 season)

  • The Whispers (after 1 season)

  • Agent Carter (after 2 seasons)

  • Galavant (after 2 seasons)

  • Nashville (after 4 seasons)

  • Castle (after 8 seasons)

CBS

R.I.P. CSI franchise.

  • Angel from Hell (after 1 season)

  • CSI: Cyber (after 1 season)

  • Rush Hour (after 1 season)

  • Limitless (after 1 season)

  • Extant (after 2 seasons)

  • Under the Dome (after 3 seasons)

  • Mike & Molly (after 6 season)

  • The Good Wife (after 7 seasons)

  • Person of Interest (its fifth and final season is airing now)

CW

It should be noted here that Containment sort of lives in that gray area between cancelation and graceful exit, thanks to the "limited series" label the network slapped on it at the start. Slick move, CW.

  • Containment (after 1 season)

  • Beauty and the Beast (after 4 seasons)

Fox

What does Fox have against attractive, delightful over-50 men? Rob Lowe and John Stamos, you're still leading men in our hearts.

Note: We have not included Sleepy Hollow here. That's because despite getting much backlash over the exit of Nicole Beharie, the series is still in contention for another season. Of course, if Fox takes a cue from ABC -- which saw similar backlash over Stana Katic's Castle exit -- expect to see Sleepy listed here by week's end. UPDATE: Sleepy Hollow was renewed.

  • Grandfathered (after 1 season)

  • The Grinder (after 1 season)

  • Bordertown (after 1 season)

  • Minority Report (after 1 season)

  • Second Chance (after 1 season)

  • Knock Knock Live (after 1 season)

  • Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life (after 1 season)

  • Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? (after 1 season)

  • American Idol (after 15 seasons)

NBC

NBC's list of cancelations is deceptively small, so keep in mind the network has the most shows currently on the bubble -- including two comedies that the peacock desperately needs in order to break up all that Chicago action.

The fate of those shows will, of course, depend heavily on the quality of the pilots NBC has seen. I'd be shocked, however, if both The Carmichael Show and Undateable ended up being listed below after next week. Well, maybe not shocked -- but certainly bummed.

  • Heroes Reborn (after 1 season)

  • The Player (after 1 season)

  • You, Me, and the Apocalypse (after 1 season)

  • Truth Be Told (after 1 season)

  • Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris (after 1 season)

  • Mr. Robinson (after 1 season)

  • Telenovela (after 1 season)

  • Heartbeat (after 1 season)

  • Crowded (after 1 season)

  • Game of Silence (after 1 season)

  • The Mysteries of Laura (after 2 seasons)

  • Undateable (after 3 seasons)

And finally, the TV series that haven't been officially renewed or cancelled yet

  • The X-Files (FOX) -- though all parties are interested in doing more, according to Fox's bosses, there is no official new season ordered yet.
