Canton, Ohio police officer Ryan Davis has received thousands of letters since the tragic death of his K-9 partner, Jethro. But a note from an 11-year-old named Allison stuck out.

Three-year-old Jethro, who had been Officer Davis's canine counterpart since he was only eight weeks old, was killed by gunfire while defending a grocery store from burglars in January.

When Allison heard the news, she mailed Davis a handwritten letter -- accompanied by a very generous donation.

"Dear police department, I sorry about Jethro," Allison wrote. "So here is my allowance for the bulletproof vests.

"God bless you and the dogs," she added.

Davis, whose grief was still fresh, was incredibly touched by the gesture -- so much so that he sought out Allison's family on Facebook so that he could thank her in person. (When Officer Davis received the letter, it was missing its original envelope, so he didn't have her return address.)

While the original post has since been deleted, a more recent status confirms that Officer Davis has since been able to contact Allison's family.

And when they talk, Davis will be able to share some great news: The police department's other dogs are currently being fitted for brand-new vests -- thanks, in part, to Allison's donation.
